What Kind of a bar is the FORT BAYOU SALOON?
At the Fort Bayou Saloon you will find a mix of every day folks that enjoy a place to have a cold beer or drink, shoot a little pool and simply relax with friends. You will meet construction workers, business people, military, retirees, hunters, fishermen, golfers and many others at the Fort Bayou Saloon. However, since "The Fort" does support motorcycle events like poker runs, benefit and charity rides and also provides a designated area for motorcycle parking, we are considered "biker friendly".
Stop in and see for yourself. We know you will find "THE FORT" to be a friendly, laid back bar with a neighborhood atmosphere.
HISTORY OF THE FORT BAYOU SALOON
The FORT BAYOU SALOON began as the Fort Bayou Bait Shop in 1985. In addition to selling live bait and fishing tackle they also sold beer.
Built and operated by Greg Verges, the bait shop was built on the site of Greg's historical home, which was moved to another location. In 1996, a new bait shop was built closer to the water and the former bait shop was leased out as a bar.
Maurice "Buck" Owens opened "Bucks" Fort Bayou Saloon, a beer only, "biker friendly" bar. Buck, a biker himself, soon became noted for his crawfish boils, barbecues, pig roasts and other parties and functions. Buck also hosted "poker runs" and other biker events.
In 2001, Buck added a full line of liquor to the bar.
Then in December of 2003, Buck decided it was time to retire (one of the many times) to spend more time with his kids and grandkids and ride his motorcycle. He sold the bar to its present owner, John "Shep" Shepler, who, other than minor changes, has maintained the Fort Bayou Saloon as it was when Buck owned it.
Many of the regular customers who still come to the Fort Bayou Saloon had a hand in building the original bait shop for Greg and some have even worked at the "Fort" from time to time.
At the FORT BAYOU SALOON you will find the beer cold and the folks to be friendly. We still have all the cookouts and crawfish boils, as well as a monthly birthday party with food and music. And as always, we are "Biker Friendly".
Stop by "The Fort" and meet the friendly staff. We NEVER CLOSE!
